The Physics of Dance Movements

Scientists have discovered that dancers are rated higher when they show larger and more variable movements of the head, neck and torso.

Speed of leg movements matter, particularly bending and twisting of the right knee.
(In what might be bad news for the 20% of the population who is left-footed, left knee movement didn't seem to matter.) In fact, certain left-legged movements had a small negative correlation with dancing ability.

One final surprise - arm movement didn't correlate with perceived dancing ability in any significant way.

International Dance Day

International Dance Day was created in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO. It has been celebrated each year since then to call attention to this art form. A wake-up call to governments and politicians to recognise the potential of dance as an avenue of economic growth and revenue.

It is celebrated each year on April 29, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet. We celebrate dance on this day. We celebrate the universality of dance which crosses all barriers and unites all colours and creeds. We celebrate the joy of dance and performance.

There are other aspects of dance too. It is a wonderful way to keep yourself fit. An integral part of dance is music. Synchronizing your body and mind to music brings about an intense sense of well-being. One doesn’t have to be a professional performer to experience this. So, do get hold of some music and dance a little daily.

You can post your International Dance Day event on this website and they will list it with other events happening all over the world.

What is dance?

Dance is organised movement of the body expressing an idea or feeling.

Music and rhythm are an integral part of dance.

Moving one’s body, feet and arms in a coordinated and rhythmic manner to music is dance.

5. to overcome fear of performance

       History of dance

Important part of rituals and ceremonies since ancient times. Rock carvings of dance forms have been found in India and Egypt that date back to 30,000 years ago.

Why am I a dance teacher?

I love dancing. It makes me feel good. I have loved dancing since I was very young. To teach I have to keep dancing and to stay physically fit.

I am an Indian classical dancer and a dance teacher teaching contemporary dance to young children. It teaches them to be physically fit, overcomes their fear of performance, develops creative thinking and helps them to learn to work with others. Most of them love dancing and those who don’t feel motivated to dance to become more physically fit.
